Quilting Teacher

Sharon V. Rotz is an enthusiastic and experienced teacher with a vast knowledge of quilting and quilting techniques. She encourages her students to try new techniques and express their creativity in their projects.

"I think that the 'why' is as important to the learning process as the 'how' so I share my own experiences and why one method may be chosen over another. My goal is not only to guide you by using good techniques, but also to encourage you to complete your project and get a full sense of accomplishment."

Sharon has been teaching quilting for the over 20 years and she would love to share her expertise with you and your group. Choose from the following class offerings or pick one of her patterns for your next quilting venture. Contact Sharon at bysher@mtc.net and specify 'quilting class'.

Classes

Freedom Quilt:
Its time to use all those strips left over from other projects as you learn techniques from Log Cabin Quilts with Attitude. Any strips, long or short, wide or narrow, even a few orphan bits of blocks, can be used in this wacky variation of the log cabin block. Any colors and combinations will work. It's easy, and it's fun. It's freedom to enjoy life, quilting, and friendship. Sewing machine required. (6 hour class)

Fat Quarter Slide:
Gather your fat quarters to make this scrap bargello-type quilt. Strip piecing shortens the time, so you can enjoy the fabrics and the stories they tell. Easy enough for beginners, yet interesting for the more advanced quilter. Sewing machine required. (6 hour class)

Playing with Hexagons:
In this class, we will work with hexagons the easy way. The pieces are rotary cut and machine stitched. Add a little paper piecing if you choose. Make a traditional grandmother's flower garden table runner or Sharon's Starlight Mosaic (pattern required). Sewing machine needed. (6 hour class)

No Piece Piecing:
It only looks complex. This quick method for making a small quilt eliminates the rotary cutting and piecing steps. Stack the layers, quilt, and snip away the unwanted layers. Did I mention? No binding either. Sewing machine required. (6 hour class)

Paper Piecing by the Strip:
Paper piece your way to perfect points. Many quilters have tried paper piecing, but hated the guess work of how large to cut the fabric or wasting too much. Using strips is the answer. Try this method and see how it works. G.P.S. pattern required. Sewing machine needed. (6 hour class)
