Speaker

Join Sharon V. Rotz as she shares her thoughts on life and quilting with you. Using her quilts as examples, she strives to expand your insight and stretch your ideas about quilting. Listen to the stories of her joys (and her struggles) as she embraces this age-old craft.

"My quilts love getting out and are so chatty that they can't wait to tell you all their little secrets. My hope is, that in addition to some fun tidbits, you will come away with fresh ideas to spark your creativity and a bit of technical knowledge to improve your next quilting project."

Lectures

        "Freedom Quilting"
What happens when you are shamed into cleaning your sewing studio and you are left holding the bag? The bag of miscellaneous, unused strips, that is.  You can sew these colorful strips into wild and whimsical freedom blocks.  Join Sharon as she introduces you to "freedom quilting" and shares her collection of log cabin quilts with attitude

        "Hex Marks the Spot"
Are you feeling "boxed in"? Are four sides not enough for you? If you are ready to break out of the square, then its time to jump onto a six-sided hexagon. Learn how quilt makers of the past have used this exciting shape in their quilts and explore examples of using hexagons in contemporary quilts.

"From Grandmother's Bed to Museum Wall"
We love the look of our traditional quilts, but are we ready to go beyond this stage with our quilting? Sharon will discuss some of the history of quilt making and review your favorite blocks and techniques. See how these time-honored themes can be updated and employed in our contemporary quilts.  An interesting look at the old and the new.

"Where Did You Get That Green?"
What does your favorite color reveal about you? This lecture examines color and our reaction to color.   As we look at actual quilts, we will define color terms and explore a color wheel with a different spin.  Sharon will discuss how she has used color and color combinations in her varied selection of quilts.
